Situated between Russia and China, Mongolia is a well-known and much-visited Asian country with an immense heritage. As with all countries, foreigners are required to obtain a visa before entering Mongolia. How long can I stay in Mongolia on a visa? The answer to this question is not easy, as it takes several factors into account.

Length of stay in Mongolia with a visa

Although the visa gives you the right to enter Mongolia, it does not allow you to stay for ever. Your stay in Mongolia is limited and depends on the type of visa you apply for.

Tourist visa

The Tourist Visa allows you to visit Mongolia as a tourist. It is valid for 150 days from the day it is issued, and for a period of 30 days.

During these thirty days, you have the right to stay and visit Mongolia's tourist towns.

Visa for a sporting or cultural event

You can obtain a visa to take part in an international sporting or cultural event. The duration of this visa is 30 days, like tourist visas, and valid for 150 days from the day it is issued.

Transit visa

The duration of stay on a Transit Visa seems shorter than others. It is issued to people who wish to stay in Mongolia for a while before continuing their journey.

It lasts for 10 days and is valid for 150 days from the date of issue.

Extending your Mongolia Visa

You can extend the duration of your visa if you wish to stay in the country for a while longer.

To do so, you must start the process on internet and go to the Mongolian Immigration Services after agreement, located in the capital Ulan Bator, to finalise your application. This will allow you to stay in Mongolia for a further 30 days.

In any case, the maximum duration of a foreigner's stay in Mongolia cannot exceed 180 days.

If you wish to reside in France, you must obtain a work permit with the support of your employer.

If you are self-employed, you will need to go to the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to complete the formalities required to obtain a residence permit.

Mongolia Visa eligibility requirements

Obtaining a visa to travel to Mongolia can sometimes be difficult, especially when you apply in the traditional way. Today, a Mongolian visa can be obtained online with fewer formalities and procedures.

The conditions for obtaining it are the same, but depend on the applicant's country of origin. Not all nationals of all countries are eligible for the Mongolia Visa. This directly implies that you must be from one of the countries eligible for the Mongolia Visa before applying.

Obtaining an electronic visa for Mongolia

Applying for an eVisa for Mongolia is very quick and easy. To do so, you need to provide the necessary information about yourself, such as your date of birth, occupation, reasons for travelling to Mongolia and any information about yourself.

You must also specify the places to be visited and the places chosen for accommodation. Proof of all this information is provided by supporting documents, which will be scanned and sent.

The personal details provided must match those on the applicant's passport. This avoids problems during police checks once you arrive in Mongolia. The processing time is 2 days maximum and the price varies according to the type of visa requested.

Once you have received the Visa as an electronic file, you must print it out for added security.
